Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our file processing tools, limits, security, and more.

General Usage

FileConvertGo is a free online platform that lets you compress, convert, merge, split, optimize, and manage PDFs, images, and documents directly from your browser. Simply choose a tool, upload your file, configure any available options, and download the result. All processing happens on our servers, so no desktop software is needed.

No additional software is required. All tools run entirely through a modern web browser. The only thing you need is an internet connection and a supported browser. Large or complex files may take longer to process, but no downloads or plugins are necessary on your end.

We support a broad range of formats including PDF, DOCX, DOC, XLSX, XLS, PPTX, PPT, TXT, HTML, JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF, and SVG. The specific input and output formats available depend on the tool you are using. Each tool page lists its currently supported formats.

Yes. The platform is fully responsive and works on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. The interface adapts to your screen size so you can upload, process, and download files from any modern device with an internet connection.

Account and Conversion Limits

Guest visitors currently have unlimited access to all file processing tools without logging in.

No. File processing is currently unlimited for all users, so you never need to log in or wait for a reset to keep working.

Registered users currently have unlimited conversions across all tools, with no total limit.

No. Only successful processing completions are counted against your usage limit. If a conversion fails due to an error, an unsupported format, or any other issue, that attempt does not consume one of your available uses. You can retry without penalty.

Uploads and Downloads

The default maximum file size is 50 MB per file. This limit may be adjusted by the administrator. Each tool page displays the current upload limit so you know what to expect before selecting a file.

Uploaded files and generated outputs are temporarily retained for 2 hours to allow you to download the result. After this period, all associated files are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers. No manual cleanup is needed.

Each file processed within a batch or multi-file operation counts separately toward your usage limit. For example, merging 3 PDFs into one consumes 3 uses. This ensures fair allocation of server resources across all users. Check the specific tool page for batch-counting details.

You can download your processed file whenever you are ready within the 2-hour retention window. Your download link remains active for that entire period. After the retention window expires, the file is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

Security and Privacy

Yes. All file transfers are encrypted using HTTPS, and files are stored temporarily only for processing. We do not access, share, or use your files for any purpose beyond completing the operation you requested. After the 2-hour retention period, all files are permanently deleted.

No. We never share, sell, or distribute your files or personal information to third parties. Your uploaded content is processed solely to deliver the tool output you requested. For more details, please review our Privacy Policy.

No personal information is required for guest usage. You can use all tools anonymously without signing up. If you choose to create an account, we only collect the minimum information needed to manage your account, such as an email address and username.

All communications between your browser and our servers are secured with TLS/SSL encryption (HTTPS). Download links use non-guessable unique identifiers, and files are stored in an isolated directory with appropriate access controls. We follow industry best practices for web application security.

PDF Tools

We support a wide range of PDF operations including compression, merging, splitting, rotating, PDF-to-Image and Image-to-PDF conversion, extracting pages, and converting PDFs to and from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other document formats. Browse the PDF tools category to see all available options.

Password-protected PDFs that require a password to view or edit cannot be processed unless you provide the correct password during upload. Some tools may support unlocking PDFs if you know the owner password. PDFs with restricted printing or copying permissions may also have limitations depending on the operation.

Formatting preservation depends on the complexity of your PDF and the target format. Simple layouts with standard fonts generally convert well. Complex documents with advanced formatting, embedded fonts, or intricate tables may show minor differences. We recommend reviewing the output and adjusting settings if needed.

Yes. The merge PDF tool allows you to combine multiple PDF files into one document. You can select the files and arrange their order before merging. Each file in the merge operation counts as a separate usage toward your conversion limit.

Image Tools

We support JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF, and SVG for image processing. The available input and output formats vary by tool. For example, the image compressor accepts most raster formats, while the image converter lets you convert between many format pairs.

Compression results depend on the selected compression level and the image format. Lossy compression (such as lowering JPEG quality) reduces file size by discarding some visual data, which may become noticeable at very high compression levels. Lossless compression preserves full quality but achieves smaller size reductions. Where supported, you can choose between quality-focused, balanced, and smaller-file options.

Yes. The resize image tool lets you set custom width and height, choose a percentage scale, or select from common preset dimensions. You can also choose to maintain the original aspect ratio to avoid distortion. The tool will show a preview of the resulting dimensions before processing.

Lossy compression reduces file size by permanently removing some image data, which can affect quality at higher compression ratios. Lossless compression reduces file size without any loss of quality by optimizing how data is stored. PNG and WebP support lossless modes, while JPEG is inherently lossy. Our tools let you choose the approach that best fits your needs.

Document Conversion

We support conversion between PDF, DOCX, DOC, XLSX, XLS, PPTX, PPT, TXT, HTML, and other common document formats. For example, you can convert a Word document to PDF, a PDF to an Excel spreadsheet, or a PowerPoint presentation to PDF. Each tool page lists its specific supported format pairs.

Formatting preservation depends on the complexity of the source document and the target format. Simple documents with standard fonts typically convert cleanly. Documents with complex layouts, custom fonts, advanced tables, or embedded objects may show minor differences. We always recommend reviewing the converted output to ensure it meets your expectations.

Scanned PDFs are essentially images of text, so standard conversion produces an image-based output rather than editable text. Some tools may offer OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capabilities if the required server dependencies are installed. Without OCR, the visual appearance is preserved but the text is not directly editable.

If you upload a file format that the selected tool does not support, the tool will display a clear error message explaining that the format is not accepted. This does not count toward your usage limit, and you can try again with a supported file type. Each tool page lists the input formats it accepts.

Errors and Troubleshooting

Conversions may fail or take longer if the file is very large, the format is complex, or the required server dependency (such as LibreOffice, Ghostscript, or Imagick) is not installed. Some advanced operations, such as PDF-to-Image or Office-to-PDF, require additional server-side components. Check the tool page for capability warnings and try a simpler format if possible.

First, check that your file does not exceed the maximum upload size displayed on the tool page. Ensure the file format is supported by the specific tool. Try using a modern, up-to-date browser. If the issue persists, check your internet connection and try again. Corrupted files may also fail to upload properly.

A tool may be marked as unavailable if it requires server-side dependencies that are not currently installed on this server (such as LibreOffice or Ghostscript). Tools that use built-in PHP libraries (GD, Imagick) are generally always available. Contact the administrator if you need a specific tool enabled.

The platform supports the latest two major versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Internet Explorer is not supported. For the best experience, keep your browser up to date. Older browsers may lack the features needed for file uploads, drag-and-drop, and responsive layout.
